It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Raymond N. Nelson.

Raymond is the founder and owner of Nelson Funeral Homes in Rocksprings, Camp Wood and Leakey. He passed from this life on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at his home.

Raymond was born in San Antonio, Texas, to parents RJ (Red) Nelson and Bonnie Barrows Nelson on July 21, 1944.

To honor the life of this extraordinary man, we have turned on the lights at all Nelson Funeral Homes locations.

Visitation was held in Rocksprings, Texas, from 3 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29, 2024. Family was present from 5 to 6 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Chapel, Rocksprings, Texas; and Leakey, Texas, 3 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 30, 2024.

Family was present from 5 to 6 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Chapel, Leakey, Texas; and Camp Wood, Texas, 2 to 7 p.m., on Friday, May 31, 2024.

Family was present from 5 to 7 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Chapel, Camp Wood, Texas.

A funeral service was held on 10 a.m. Saturday, June 1, 2024, at Barksdale Baptist Church, Barksdale, Texas. Officiants Pastor Scott Pomeroy and Pastor Glenn Connell.

Burial followed at the Nelson Ranch.

Arrangements are under the personal care of Nelson Funeral Homes, and a complete obituary will appear in a future edition of the Leader-News.
