1 Set SMART goals

Before you dive into learning, you need to have a clear idea of what you want to achieve and how you will measure your progress. A SMART goal is specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound. For example, if you want to learn conference organization, a SMART goal could be: "I want to plan and execute a successful online conference for 100 participants by the end of June, using Zoom, Eventbrite, and Slack as the main tools." A SMART goal helps you focus on the most important aspects of your skill and avoid distractions or procrastination.

2 Find the best resources

Depending on the skill you want to learn, there are different types of resources that can help you. These could include books, online courses, podcasts, blogs, videos, mentors, or peers. You don't need to use all of them, but you should find the ones that suit your learning style, budget, and availability. For example, if you want to learn conference organization, you might benefit from taking an online course that covers the basics, reading a book that gives you practical tips, and joining a community of conference organizers who can offer you feedback and support.

3 Practice deliberately

The key to learning any skill is to practice it regularly and intentionally. This means that you should not only repeat what you have learned, but also challenge yourself to apply it in different contexts, scenarios, and situations. For example, if you want to learn conference organization, you should not only watch tutorials or read articles, but also try to organize a small-scale event for your friends, colleagues, or clients. This way, you can test your knowledge, skills, and abilities, and identify your strengths and weaknesses.

Practice deliberatly. My suggestion is firstly understand what skill set is required, what type of work you are going to do and then I believe consistency and keep short term goal in learning is more important key to achieve something and being upgraded.

Practice makes perfect. We will tend to procrastinate when we find things going uphill. Learn to take the baby steps forward. Allow failures, we don't need to succeed at first attempt. Identify our area of improvement and continuously try our best to move closer to our goal.

4 Get feedback and improve

Learning a new skill is not a linear process. You will encounter difficulties, mistakes, and failures along the way. Instead of giving up or feeling frustrated, you should use them as opportunities to learn and improve. The best way to do that is to get feedback from someone who has more experience or expertise in the skill you want to learn. For example, if you want to learn conference organization, you should ask for feedback from your participants, speakers, sponsors, or mentors. They can give you valuable insights, suggestions, and recommendations on how to improve your performance and outcomes.

5 Celebrate your achievements

Learning a new skill can be rewarding, but also exhausting and stressful. That's why you should celebrate your achievements, no matter how big or small they are. Celebrating your achievements can boost your confidence, motivation, and satisfaction. It can also help you recognize your progress and appreciate your efforts. For example, if you want to learn conference organization, you should celebrate every milestone you reach, such as finding a venue, securing a speaker, selling a ticket, or getting positive feedback. You can celebrate by rewarding yourself, sharing your success, or expressing your gratitude.
