1 Identify your skill level and goals

Before you start browsing for online courses, you need to have a clear idea of what you want to learn and why. Are you a beginner who wants to learn the basics of a new creative skill, such as photography, graphic design, or writing? Or are you an intermediate or advanced learner who wants to improve your existing skills, learn new techniques, or explore new genres or styles? Your skill level and goals will determine the type of course, the duration, the difficulty, and the outcomes you should look for.

If it's a new skill you're learning, chances are you know absolutely nothing about it. So first advice, stick with this new thing for at least 2 months before giving up. You want to spend the first week getting a high-level understanding of what all goes into this domain. Use Google or ChatGPT. Get the high-level concepts. Next, find someone credible to learn from. Get onto YT and search for one of the basic concepts. Then grab the top creator and do some research on them. Week 2 to Week 4 should be about learning as much as you can in the most undisciplined way possible. Weeb 5 to Week 8 will be about implementing and learning more. By this point, you know if you wanna continue with this skill or not.

First, figure out what creative skill you're interested in, like drawing or photography. Then, search online platforms like Coursera or Skillshare for courses on that skill. Read reviews to find the best one for you, and maybe try a free trial before committing. Once you've found a course, set aside regular time to practice and stick to it. Don't forget to join online communities for support and feedback, and keep challenging yourself to improve. Learning something new can be tough, but with dedication and practice, you'll get there!

2 Research the course content and instructor

Once you have a shortlist of potential online courses that match your skill level and goals, you need to dig deeper into the course content and instructor. What topics, skills, and projects does the course cover? How are the lessons structured and delivered? What are the learning outcomes and assessments? How much feedback and support will you get from the instructor and peers? Who is the instructor and what are their credentials, experience, and teaching style? You can find this information on the course website, syllabus, reviews, or previews.

Si solo repites ejercicios, no aprendes, te adiestras. Tendrás mucha habilidad y eficacia, pero restringirás tu creatividad y, por lo tanto, lo que buscabas (desarrollar tu creatividad).

3 Compare the cost and value

Another important factor to consider when choosing an online course for your creative skill is the cost and value. How much does the course cost and what are the payment options? What are the benefits and drawbacks of free vs paid courses? What are the additional costs, such as materials, software, or subscriptions? How does the course compare to other similar courses in terms of quality, reputation, and outcomes? How much value will you get from the course in terms of personal satisfaction, professional development, or career opportunities?

When selecting an online course for your creative skill, it's essential to weigh the cost against the value it offers. Consider the course fee and payment options—does it fit within your budget, and are there any installment plans available? Evaluate the benefits and drawbacks of free versus paid courses. While free courses may be enticing, paid courses often provide more comprehensive content, instructor support, and certification. Be mindful of any additional costs, such as materials, software, or subscriptions required to complete the course. Compare the course to similar offerings in terms of quality, reputation, and outcomes. Research reviews and testimonials to gauge the experiences of past learners.

4 Choose the best format and platform

Online courses for creative skills can come in different formats and platforms, such as video lectures, live sessions, interactive modules, podcasts, ebooks, blogs, or social media. Depending on your learning preferences, availability, and device compatibility, you need to choose the best format and platform for your online course. Do you prefer to learn at your own pace or follow a schedule? Do you like to watch, listen, read, or do? Do you want to access the course on your computer, tablet, or phone? Do you need to download any software or apps?

Considering online courses for creative skills, it's crucial to assess the format and platform that best suit your learning style and needs. Reflect on whether you prefer self-paced learning or structured schedules, as well as your preferred method of learning—whether it's through watching videos, listening to audio, reading text-based content, or engaging in interactive modules. Additionally, consider your device preferences and accessibility requirements. Determine if you'll be accessing the course primarily on a computer, tablet, or smartphone, and ensure that the platform is compatible with your chosen device. Check if any specific software or applications need to be downloaded to fully utilize the course materials and resources.

While my first comment encouraged less formality, it is in this section that I strongly advise people to look for platforms that not only provide the right content but also offer the most valuable certificate/degree/course completion verification for the desired future. In the most pragmatic sense possible- there must be a strong return on investment.

Learning a new creative skill online can be challenging, but also rewarding if you stick to your plan and enjoy the journey.
